Kindersley Relives Roots with Horse-Drawn Seeding Demo

The weekend got off to a good start as the Kindersley & District Plains Museum became a hub of activity with a historic seeding demonstration—where literal horsepower carried the day.

Horse-drawn drills, harrows, and dicers seeded about 5 acres of oats, while other teams of horses stood by to provide wagon rides and photo opportunities for the attending school children and fascinated onlookers.

“It was a good day for the demo, the weather cooperated, and we had a great turnout;” noted Greg Becker, one of the mainstays behind the event.

With this second annual seeding demonstration, the museum hopes to give the Kindersley area a chance to relive history and appreciate the dedication and perseverance the prairie settlers processed. The seeding demonstration will be followed by a harvest demonstration in late September. While the weather has yet to determine the date of harvest, the Kindersley & District Plains Museum is already looking forward to the next “glimpse into the past”.
