Klippers Win 1st of the Season

The Iron Horse Kindersley Klippers notched their 1st win of this young 2015/16 SJHL regular season with a 6 – 5 final over the Yorkton Terriers.

Yorkton opened the scoring @ 8:28 of the 1st with a power play goal by Dayton Boutilier from Corwin Stevely & Adam Santoro.  Kindersley’s Daniell Lange potted a power play goal of his own @ 11:53 from Landon Gross & Branden Scheidl to even the score at 1-1.  Brendon Benson gave the Klippers a 2-1 lead unassisted @ 13:03; which is what the scoreboard read after 1 period of play.

It took just 1 minute & 1 second of the 2nd for Terrier Brandon Sookro to tie the game 2-2 assisted by Shane Sherban & Paul Savage.  Kindersley answered right back @ 5:16 with Daniell Lange scoring his 2nd of the night getting some help from Dexter Bricker & Austin Calladine to regain the lead 3-2.  Yorkton’s Brandon Sookro netted his 2nd @ 15:45 on the power play, assisted by Dayton Boutilier & Kailum Gervais to even the score at 3-3.  Kindersley’s Carson Pickett bumped the Klippers up to 4-3 @ the 18:31 mark, on the power play helped out by Cody Young & Branden Scheidl.  However the Terriers bit right back @ 19:24 with Adam Santoro scoring unassisted to wrap the 2nd with both teams tied at 4.

About 2 and a 1/2 minutes into the 3rd Kindersley took the lead once again, 5-4, with a power play goal by Brendon Benson, his 2nd of game, assisted by Austin Callandine .  Sam Binfet gave the Klippers a bit of breathing room @ 5:48, going up 6-4 assisted by Cody Young & Josh Stang.  Yorkton continued to press hard though & Jordan Evans was rewarded scoring unassisted on the power play @ 7:53 to narrow the gap 6-5.

The back half of the 3rd period saw both teams skating hard.  Kindersley working to hold on to their 1 goal lead, while Yorkton pushed back to tie things up once again.  At the end of 60 minutes the Klippers added their first W to the SJHL stat board with a 6-5 final over the Terriers.

Kindersley’s Matt Zentner faced 37 shots on goal while Yorkton’s netminder stood in front of 39.

Klippers FASTHockey Play by Play Annoucer Dean Gutenberg’s son Seth was all smiles & grins at being named the Iron Horse Kindersley Klippers 7th Player of the Game, receiving a pair of tickets & new Klippers hat.  Hanna Weber was outstanding as the Panago Fan of the Game & was rewarded with a Gift Certificate from Panago Pizza & a Hockey Stick autographed by the Kindersley Klippers.   Jenn Wagner went home $1075 richer with her winning 50/50 ticket.  Curtis Sackville was the 1st to score during the 1st intermission Simple skills challenge to Win a Klippers Season Ticket package.  Blair Scheidl was pretty happy with his Klippers Gatorade Prize Pkg.  The 2nd intermission Shoot to Win Accumulator Jackpot was not won, so another $50 has been added to the bag for a new total of $200 cash up for grabs on Wednesday night against Melville.
