Back in March, after getting a message from a teacher, Kylan Wagner decided to check out Justin Bieber’s competition for local dancers to accompany the Canadian Star on stage. So Kylan taught himself the choreography, posted on YouTube, and once he had it mastered, he got his Mom to tape it. A few months passed and on Saturday Kylan received the letter asking him to join Bieber on stage, one of only 2 dancers at the Saskatoon concert.
Here’s a little more about Kylan…
How long have you been dancing?
I started dance when I was 3 … My mom’s teacher taught me at first; Mrs Hanson was like my Grandma and my first teacher.
How many hours a week do you train?
I train around 20 hours per week .. During the season I danced Tuesday and Thursday in Kindersley, Wednesday and Sunday in Leader and on the weekend I was away a lot for conventions and the 11 competitions I attended this year.
What is your favorite style of dance?
I love it all but I can’t decide between Ballet and Tap
What is your favorite solo you have ever performed?
My favorite solo would be this year’s tap solo “I See Fire” I absolutely love it !
When you not dancing, what do you like to do?
I love hockey and golf but mostly I just dance. I don’t have a lot of free time.
What is your favorite dance experience you have had so far?
My favorite dance experience would be attending the National Ballet School of Canada in Toronto. I attended last summer and I will be there again this summer and hopefully l will get to stay all year this year. I was accepted full time last year but my family didn’t feel ready to move me away from home.
What is your dream job as a dancer?
There are so many things I want to do … Dance on Broadway, be in a movie, be in a professional company, tour with an artist. I can’t decide.
What are your future plans…
Well in a week I go to Orlando for Candance Nationals where I’m competing for Mr Junior Candance. I went last year and was 2nd overall so I’m pretty excited about this year. Then in December I get to go to Germany for the World Tap Dance Championships. I’m so proud to represent my country and be part of Team Canada !!!
