Local Profile: All Star Ervine

Marley Ervine will bring her action packed five year university career to an end soon and it will be with a heavy heart. During those five years Marley’s many achievements include: making the All Academic Team four times, playing in the Winter Games in 2011, winning the Western Canadian Softball Championship in 2012, obtaining a bronze medal at the Nationals, winning the Canada West Championship 2013/14 with the Huskies. And to top off her five year career, a call up to the Canada West 2nd team All Star for Hockey.

Kindersley born Ervine looks back it on it with nothing but fond memories, “(I’m) Pretty heartbroken about it. The more involved I got with the game the more I enjoyed it and my love for the game continued to grow.”

Ervine was quick to recognize her roots and mentors who have helped her achieve success. When asked about her call up to the All Star team she had this to say “It’s definitely an honour to be named to the all star team. It’s not something I ever really strived to achieve but the hard work I put in with Larry Wintoneak over the summers put me in a position to be trusted by the coaching staff and they gave me opportunities accordingly. I was brought up in a hockey family with a lot of my cousins playing competitively and was a huge Klipper fan in the early 2000s when Sean Connors, Chris O’Connor and Dallas Cairns were on the team.”

“I had awesome experiences with Kindersley Minor Sports winning a PeeWee provincial championship and playing 3 years in the West Central Wheat King program.”

“I’ve always had a desire to compete and a lot of that has stemmed from watching the Klippers success when I was younger. It also has to do with my upbringing and my parents playing competitive sports. The values my parents instilled in me as a kid carried through my hockey career and I wouldn’t have reached my goals without them.”

“I’ll finish up my degree in April and take the summer off before I start out in the real world. I have a job lined up at Virtus Group

in Saskatoon starting in September so it’s something to look forward to!”

With Marleys time at university coming to an end and the next stage of her career beginning, we’re sure the future will be just as bright.
