The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without James van Riemsdyk for the next 6-8 weeks.
The winger is dealing with a non-displaced fracture in his left foot, the team announced Monday. It is unclear at this point when van Riemsdyk suffered the injury. He logged 15:55 of ice-time in Saturday’s 7-0 loss to theSan Jose Sharks.
Van Riemsdyk leads the Maple Leafs in points with 29 (14 goals, 15 assists) in 40 games this season. The 26-year-old has only missed two games since the start of the 2012-13 campaign.
The team also announced they’ve recalled forward Josh Leivo from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies. The 22-year-old has 11 goals, 19 assists in 35 games with the Marlies this season. His strong play earned him an AHL All-Star selection.
The Maple Leafs’ next game takes place Wednesday at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
