The Melfort Mustangs concluded their two-game road swing with a 5-2 victory over the Kindersley Klippers in Kindersley on Thursday, November 26.
For the first regular season game since the 2013-2014 season leading scorer Travis Mayan was out of the lineup. The Mustangs didn’t miss a beat without him.
The Mustangs led 2-0 after the first period and 3-0 after the second period.
Justin Boyer, Tristan Frei, Dakota Boutin, Wyatt Hinson and Teal Sobkowicz scored for the Mustangs.
Austin Calladine and Josh Bly responded for the Klippers.
Evan Plotnik made 30 saves for the Mustangs; Nathan Hargrave made 26 saves for the Klippers.
The win improved the Mustangs record to 18-5-2-1 with 39 points, good enough for first in the Sherwood Division, eight points ahead of the La Ronge Ice Wolves who jumped the idle Nipawin Hawks with a win on Thursday night.
The Mustangs return to the Northern Lights Palace on Saturday night to face the Estevan Bruins; game time is 7:30 p.m.
