New Traffic Signals Coming to Main Street

By Rina Rast, Kindersley Social, October 24, 2016

In the regular meeting of October 11, Council approved a motion to purchase and install new traffic lights on Main Street.

Costing $261,044, the project will replace the signal and LED lights on all four existing traffic signal locations between Railway Avenue and 5th Avenue.

The new standard intersection traffic poles, with davit arms for the signals, have already been ordered and will be purchased by the Town of Kindersley. The task of installing the lights will be contracted to RGM Contracting Inc., the lowest bidder for the recent Main Street Traffic Lights Replacement Project Request for Proposals.

Installation is tentatively scheduled to commence in the beginning of November. Once the project has begun, all existing traffic signals will be removed and temporarily replaced with 4-way stop signs. The lights will be installed one intersection at a time, and every effort will be taken to ensure that traffic flow continues as smoothly as possible.

It must be noted that this project does not include the intersection of Highway 7 and Main Street. Negotiations between the Town of Kindersley and the Ministry of Highways regarding the replacement of those traffic signals are ongoing.
