No one wants to hurt the environment or backup the sewer….
We all want to help the environment, and no one wants their sewer to back up. However, sometimes we still put things down the sewer that do not belong there. Here is a helpful reminder of what we DO NOT put down the drain:
- Grease (grease clings to pipes and builds up over time causing sewer to backup)
- Sticks
- Rags and paper towel
- Sanitary napkins
- Diapers and baby wipes
- Latex gloves
- Household Hazardous Waste (i.e. cooking oil, automotive fluids, powdered cement, paints and stains etc.)
Remember, all storm sewers lead to your water. The storm sewer system drains into rivers, lakes and streams and can seep into our ground. Whatever was in the storm sewer can contaminate drinking water sources.
By taking theses simple steps we can together preserve our environment and help our sewers!
