Prince Albert emergency room over capacity, declares code burgundy

Code burgundy in effect since Jan. 4 at Victoria Hospital

Prince Albert’s Parkland Health Region has declared a code burgundy for the city’s Victoria Hospital, due to what it says is an over capacity issue, which has been going on since Monday, Jan. 4.

The health region said the hospital’s inpatient units are full, resulting from a very busy emergency department.

According to a news release on Sunday, emergency department staff will respond to patients with life-threatening or serious health concerns first,”

“If you come to an Emergency Department with a non-emergency or non-urgent health care concern, you may have to wait before your condition is treated,” the release said.

The health region suggested that people with “non-urgent injury or illness” may want to contact family physicians or attend “one of the walk-in clinics in Prince Albert.”
