Newborn Hearing Screening in Kindersley Hospital
Saskatchewan hospitals that deliver babies will now also feature screening for newborn hearing.
All 18 hospitals in Saskatchewan that regularly deliver babies will screen for early signs of hearing difficulty in newborns.
Kindersley Hospital is also included in the program that came into effect May 1st.
“This investment will ensure that children born in Saskatchewan with hearing loss are identified, so the proper supports can be put into place to help those children succeed,” said Health Minister Jim Reiter in a news release.
The screen process is painless and safe. Through the program newborn babies are screened for any signs of hearing difficulty. If the screening detects any difficulty, the hospital will schedule an appointment with an audiologist for more detailed testing.
