The Kindersley Red Lions are eager on the ice this season, and are already preparing for their exhibition game on Friday, October 20.
“The team is excited, they know what they are going do to and are getting excited about doing it,” noted Coach Wayne Sampson, also known as “Sambo” amongst the team.
Kindersley will host the Luseland Mallards this Friday, and Coach Sampson plans to use this game as a way to evaluate the youngest members of his team. “I’ve seen our veterans, I know what they can do and I realize that they are antsy to get on the ice, but I would like to see what the young guys are made of first.”
Before the pre-season game the Red Lions are hosting an open try outs , those interested in joining the team can swing by on October 16 & 18 starting at 9:00 p.m. each night. This will also give fans the opportunity to meet the new members of the team.
Coach Sampson noted that the team seems in great spirits and excited for the upcoming season. “Many of the guys have rented the ice already just to skate around and get in form, I’d say they’ve done that at least 6 times already this year.”
The Red Lions continue to experience shifting as Kelly Guard wasn’t able to join the team, fortunately a few other goal tenders stepped up to fill in the gap. Coach Sampson plans to finalize the team size and members over the next few weeks.
Be sure to mark your calendars on Friday, October 20 at 8:30 p.m., and come on down to the West Central Events Centre to cheer the boys as the take on the Mallards!
