After some tough games since the New Year, the Red Lions are ready for a strong game to propel them into provincials.
“We had an initial slow start in the beginning of the season, but we did get stronger as we went,” says Head Coach Curtis Graham, referring to the January 13 game where the Red Lions won 11-7 against the Bigger Nationals.
The next two games, however, were not in their favour. On January 14, the Red Lions faced off against the Kerrobert Tigers and lost 5-2. The next weekend saw the Willkie Outlaws take the ice at a stunning 10-3.
“We finished a little less than ideal,” noted Coach Graham, “so we are looking for more momentum as we start off in the provincials.”
Coach Graham is aiming for just that, by adding a few more players from other communities, including Kerrobert and Alberta. Some of these players have played with the Red Lions before, so he feels that he has a strong team to enter into this weekend’s provincial playoff game against the Hague Royals.
While the Red Lions haven’t played against the Royals yet this year, Coach Graham says that he “expects nothing less than a good team to meet them head on.”
