Game Story
The last time the Regina Pats played the Kootenay Ice they combined for 12 goals in a 7-5 Pats win. The final regular season meeting between the two teams proved to be more of the same. Regina got out to a two goal lead in the first on a shorthanded marker from Austin Wagner, two minutes in, and a power play goal from Cole Sanford five minutes later. The two teams then traded goals with Kootenay’s Zak Zborovsky scoring his 25th, and the Pats Sanford notching his second of the night to end the period at 3-1 Regina. In the middle frame Lane Zablocki restored the Pats two goal lead at the 4:09 mark. Adam Brooks had assists on three of the Pats four goals to extend his consecutive game point streak to sixteen, now the longest streak of the season in the WHL. Kootenay got goals for Eli Lieffers and Reed Morrison to make it 4-3 Regina after two periods. That is as close as this one would get. Cole Sanford added an empty net goal to complete the hat trick for the game making the final score 5-3. Regina’s Tyler Brown stopped 29 shots to get the win.
