Rob Anderson Sworn in as Kindersley Councillor by Acclamation

In the wake of the Kindersley Constituency by-election for a new MLA, Kindersley faced yet another by-election in the Town Council as the MLA left both the deputy-mayor and councillor position empty.

Last Monday, the position was filled by acclamation with Robert Anderson. Anderson went on to participate in the regular council meeting and was also named as a representative of the RM Liaison Committee.

Anderson’s place was previously held by Ken Francis, the newly elected MLA for the Kindersley Constituency. Francis also held the position as Deputy Mayor, so when he resigned his position in late January, Councillor Shaun Henry assumed the position of Deputy Mayor on February 12. Henry previously held the position as acting mayor last term.

Anderson assumed his position by acclamation as no other person applied for the spot. This came as a bit of a surprise as the election in 2016 showed a good amount of community interest as over 14 persons threw their hat into the ring. However, when the by-election was called by the Town of Kindersley in mid-February, only Anderson stepped forward. On March 8, the Town announced an abandonment of poll and stated Anderson assumed the position by acclamation. Last Monday, Anderson read an oath for a term ending October 2020.
