Saskatchewan out front at firefighters curling nationals

TRURO – Nova Scotia’s Chad Stevens remains in contention for a playoff berth at the Canadian firefighters curling championship.

After splitting games yesterday at the Truro Curling Club, Stevens sits tied for second with British Columbia’s Dean Thulin with a record of 6-2. Saskatchewan’s Gregg Tarasoff is sitting atop the leaderboard with an 8-1 mark.

Alberta (6-3) and Southern Ontario (5-3) round out the top five.

The top four teams following round-robin play today will advance to the Page playoffs.

On Wednesday, Stevens, who skips a team that consists of mate Dennis Stevens, second Dave Richardson and lead Mike Grist, defeated Alberta’s Cory Henderson 7-6 in 11 ends, before a 7-3 defeat at the hands of B.C.

Saskatchewan continued to set the pace on Wednesday by doubling Southern Ontario 8-4 and nipping Manitoba’s Len Krisko 8-7.
