Right from the outset, long before the 1-9 start they never recovered from, the Toronto Blue Jays were forced to play catch up on their season.
The day before the first full-squad workout, Josh Donaldson suffered a tear in his right calf and didn’t find level ground until late July. Prospect Dalton Pompey suffered a concussion at the World Baseball Classic and spent the entire year on the disabled list.
Later in the spring, Roberto Osuna and Francisco Liriano suffered neck/back injuries that left them chasing full strength on the mound.
