Will Ferguson, Giller Prize and Three-Time Leacock Medal for Humour Winner, Is Coming to the Wheatland Regional Library

On Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 7PM, Will Ferguson will be the special guest of the Wheatland Regional Library. Escape winter’s dreary woes and join us for a discussion with the Giller Prize winner and three-time winner of the Leacock Medal for Humour.

Will is famous for many quotes including: “Many Canadian nationalists harbour the bizarre fear that should we ever reject royalty, we would instantly mutate into Americans, as though the Canadian sense of self is so frail and delicate a bud, that the only thing stopping it from being swallowed whole by the US is an English lady in a funny hat.”

In Beauty Tips from Moose Jaw: Travels in Search of Canada he wrote, “More polar bears live in Canada than in the rest of the world combined, which raises the question, Why the hell did we choose the beaver as our national emblem? We could have had Nanuk of the North, Lord of the Arctic, as our symbol. Instead we got stuck with Squirrelly McTeeth. Sheesh.”

Will now lives in Calgary, but if you ate at the Fuller’s restaurant on Idylwyld Drive in Saskatoon between December 1981 and March 1982 he may have prepared your meal!

Will Ferguson’s latest novel is The Finder. He has written 18 books spanning humour, travel, Canadian history and culture and fiction. To register for this free Wheatland Regional Library event via Zoom, send an e-mail to ProgramManager@wheatland.sk.ca
